And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.
Ezekiel 22:30 KJV
Hedges are mentioned several times in scripture. It is referring to a hedge, or fence, built from prayer that goes forth. In this life we may pass away, but our prayers live on. That is why it is so important to pray for our loved ones. Long after we are gone, the prayers we pray over our children and family will circulate about them forever.
In the book of Job, we see a hedge so strong that the enemy had to ask God to lift it. The devil could not penetrate through it. Once lifted the enemy could create chaos in Job's life. Prayers that we pray have the ability to build up hedges around us.
God is looking for hedge builders and Gap fillers. The enemy will come through and create chaos to distract us. Once distracted, we constantly pray about ourselves and current situation. We don't look at what God is doing in our churches and our communities. Im definitely not suggesting to stop praying for your situation. However, what God is trying to do through you is so much bigger. We must not forget to pray for the prodigals, communities, and families.
In battles in the old days, a soldier would find a gap and sacrifice his life by filling the gap with his body. That way the enemy could not ease his way through the gap. I am not suggesting to sacrifice your life. The elders who have once filled our churches that are now long gone, have stood in the gap for generations to come. They have prayed prayers over their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They have paved the way for us. God is looking at our communities and cities asking where are hedge builders and gap fillers?
