A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
Isaiah 42:3 KJV
Have you ever stopped and admired reeds around a riverbank? The sight can be simply beautiful! The wind blowing through them causing them to dance against the water's edge at sunset. I'm a lover of photography and such a sight catches my eye. They stand tall and strong. That is because they are growing near their life source, the water.
Reeds drink the water up their long straw like stems. Shepherds used to tie them together and make flutes. When wind is blown through them they produce a noise. They are very delicate so the shepherds had to be very careful. When the reeds would break they would cast them down on the ground. Fishermen would trample over them with their clumsy feet.
The reed that once stood tall and strong now lays bruised and broken. The wind would blow but no noise was produced out of it. Sometimes life comes and bruises us. Certain circumstances can knock the very breath out of you! It can make you feel as if you do not have the strength to sing the song God has placed within you.
God said he would not cast down the bruised reed. He will not reject us no matter how broken we may feel! Keep growing by the life source! Our God is in the restoration business and he will give you a new song! The bruised reed shall sing again.
